San Diego
Saturday, March 25, 2006, 04:20 PM
I went to TGI Friday's in San Diego yesterday with three other guys from the boat. It was our first meal in the United States and we all just sat there salivating over the menu. I think we were all tempted to just say "just bring me whatever takes the least amount of time." I think it's the best meal I've had in a long time. The Sam Adams wasn't bad either.

American Soil
Friday, March 24, 2006, 12:45 AM
Today, in a few short hours, I will finally see American soil for the first time in over two months. They say that you don't know what you have until it gets taken away. Well, I now know what I have; please do not take it away again. You hear that, CG? No more patrols for me. (Yeah, I wish.)

I'm trying desperately to find some clever wording to put in here to amuse and reward anyone who takes the time to visit this page. Unfortunately, I think I've temporarily exhausted my supply of smart phrases writing awards and letters of appreciation for my guys.

177 hours until RTHP.

The French
Wednesday, March 22, 2006, 01:27 PM
As French youth continue to fight for their right to not be fired regardless of job performance, the French legislature is taking steps to move the digital music market away from free market principles. Apparently the government wants to require that all digital music be playable on all digital music players. This is something that I certainly agree with -- I hate the way Apple has created such a closed system -- but government regulation isn't the way to get there. If the law passes, Apple will likely withdraw from the French music market (they'll likely keep selling iPods, just no iTunes music store). The solution to the iPod problem isn't more regulation, but for competing companies to get their act together and produce an attractive alternative.

Pain
Tuesday, March 21, 2006, 10:47 PM
If you knew what type of internet connection I have to suffer through in order to make these postings underway, you would treasure each and every one of my entries. Okay, perhaps that's not true. A turd, no matter how carefully or painstakingly crafted, is still a turd.

That being said, the internet connection on this boat makes a frequent habit of crossing over from painfully slow to slowly causing physical pain. Imagine the modem your friend used back in the early 90's when the internet was new and people still dialed into BBSs. Now share that modem with 170 of your best friends. I know, even reading about it hurts.

225 hours until RTHP.

Airports
Monday, March 20, 2006, 02:55 PM
I watched the closing airport scene from Love Actually and it makes me want to ask: Last time you flew in to an airport, was there a throng of your loved ones waiting to greet you, or did you find yourself stressed and alone?

Because Pensions Are So Darn Expensive
Saturday, March 18, 2006, 10:43 PM

I look around and it appears that 80% of the military is addicted to nicotine. Does anybody else find this disturbing?

From Today's POD

No, I did not author this piece.
Messdeck scuttlebutt [water fountain] has been removed, thanks entirely to those a$$holes who decided to pour Top Ramen noodles and tobacco spit down the drain instead of using: (a) a cup; (b) a used bottle; or (c) your pocket. "Here's to you, Mr. 'I Need to Spit and Pour Ramen Noodles in the Scuttlebutt Because I'm Lazy and I Suck.'" Frank talk from the EO: "Given the choice of jettisoning a perfectly innocent piece of equipment or you, we'll throw you overboard any day of the week and twice on Sunday." Questions to LT Tozzi.

Personally, I Don't Mind If You Act Like a Jackass...
Sunday, March 12, 2006, 12:21 PM
I simply don't understand what happens to certain people when they get alcohol in them. Guy who are normal, sane, and all around good people turn into raging lunatics as if some inner resevoir of anger just burst. I always thought that the reason you drank alcohol was to be happy and feel good. Most of the people I drank with at the Academy were the same way. Certainly we had the guys who got really silly or would play stupid games when they drank, but I've never met so many people who just got angry and stupid. It's not that I particularly care that someone is making a complete ass of themself, but when it goes to the point where I end up having to do an investigation I start having a personal stake you behaving like a normal person.
